 COMPLETED:
- Generated 9 new assets (tools + UI cursors/font)
- Demo progress: 141/252 (56%, was 51%)
- Designed complete embedded trial mode system
- Defined marijuana capital starting strategy
- Added launch rewards (first 10 buyers + streamers)

🎯 GAME DESIGN:
- Demo = Embedded trial mode (NOT separate build!)
- Trial players farm marijuana for capital while locked to farm zone
- All progress carries over to full game
- Fog of war teases locked content
- Tool tiers restricted (wooden only in demo)
- First 10 global buyers get Gronk + founder perks
- Streamer program: free license + 10 Gronks

📝 SESSION REPORT - DEMO MECHANICS DESIGN

Date: January 8, 2026
Session Duration: ~2.5 hours (11:00 - 13:30 CET)
Focus: Demo Gameplay Mechanics, Asset Generation, Trial Strategy


🎯 SESSION OBJECTIVES:

  1. Complete remaining demo assets (tools, UI, crops)
  2. Design comprehensive demo gameplay mechanics
  3. Define trial mode restrictions and unlock strategy
  4. Update all documentation with accurate asset counts

ACHIEVEMENTS:

1. Asset Generation Complete:

Tools & Equipment (8 assets):

  • Generated smooth vector style tools (Cult of the Lamb aesthetic)
  • Shovel, Scythe, Pickaxe, Axe, Sickle, Pitchfork
  • Copied existing: Hoe (basic), Watering Can
  • All stored in: /assets/references/items/tools/

UI Elements (3 new assets):

  • Inventory numbers font (0-9 sprite sheet) - 160x16px
  • Cursor hand (interaction) - 24x24px
  • Cursor crosshair (targeting) - 24x24px
  • Total UI now: 28 elements (80% complete!)

Crop Growth Stages:

  • Wheat (5 stages complete)
  • Carrot (5 stages complete)
  • Remaining for demo: Tomato, Potato, Corn (3 crops × 6 = 18 sprites)

2. Demo Progress Update:

Before Session:

  • 129 assets complete (51% demo)

After Session:

  • 141 assets complete (56% demo!)
  • +12 new assets generated
  • Missing: 111 assets
  • Total demo target: 252 assets

🗺️ Demo Map Layout:

Accessible Area:

  • Small farm plot (~20 crop plots)
  • 1x Stream/creek (water source)
  • 3x Trees (1 sapling/tree in demo vs 2 in full)
  • Basic terrain
  • Fog of war around edges (can SEE locked areas, can't ACCESS)

Locked Areas (Teaser):

  • Town (visible but inaccessible - one vendor only)
  • Other biomes (grayed out)
  • NPC locations (teased but locked)
  • Quests (visible but disabled)

💰 Marijuana Starting Capital Strategy:

Why Marijuana?

  • Grows in 3-4 in-game days
  • Sells for 50-100 coins per harvest
  • Marketing Hook: "Farm weed in demo, get rich when you unlock!"

Economy Loop:

  1. Plant 3-5 marijuana seeds from chest
  2. Wait 3-4 days (real-time)
  3. Harvest → Sell in town vendor
  4. Reinvest in more seeds
  5. By full unlock: You're a marijuana millionaire! 💰

Result: Instant advantage when purchasing full game!

🚀 NEXT STEPS:

Immediate (Next Session):

  2. Grassland Production Tiles:

    • Generate variations from 27 references
    • ~58 production tiles needed
    • = 217/252 = 86% complete!
  3. Animation Polish:

    • Kai farming animations (12 frames)
    • Susi extras (7 frames)
    • Ana memory scene (4 frames)
    • = 240/252 = 95% complete!

Development (Code):

  1. Implement License Check System (trial vs full)
  2. Create Fog of War mechanic (locked areas visible but inaccessible)
  3. Build Starting Chest spawn logic
  4. Implement Tool Tier Restriction (demo = wood only)
  5. Create Town Vendor (single vendor access in demo)

Marketing:

  1. Prepare Kickstarter video (10-min demo gameplay)
  2. Create marketing materials (marijuana capital hook!)
  3. Set up streamer program (applications?)
  4. Plan launch rewards (first 10 buyers tracking)
